Baker Cemeteries Around The USA

THIS IS A CEMETERY
--Author unknown
"Lives are commemorated - deaths are recorded - families are reunited -
memories are made tangible - and love is undisguised. This is a cemetery.
"Communities accord respect, families bestow reverence,
historians seek information and our heritage is thereby enriched.
"Testimonies of devotion, pride and remembrance are carved
in stone to pay warm tribute to accomplishments and to the life -
not the death - of a loved one. The cemetery is homeland for family
memorials that are a sustaining source of comfort to the living.
"A cemetery is a history of people - a perpetual record of
yesterday and sanctuary of peace and quiet today. A cemetery
exists because every life is worth loving and remembering - always."

You can submit burial information via email. If you have Microsoft Office Word please download this form (done in Word) and use it. If you prefer, just email me the information, but please remember to list the COUNTY and STATE where the cemetery is located.

There are about 250 KNOWN Baker Cemeteries in the U.S.A.  Needless to say, they are only a drop in the bucket when it comes to places our Baker ancestors are buried. But we have to start somewhere - and I choose to start with the Baker Cemeteries. When a particular state has only a few Baker Cemeteries I will provide any information I have on older Baker burials in that state. The term "older" is relative - when a state was settled by Baker's obviously plays a large part. In general I list those people born prior to 1900.

This site does not focus on any particular branch of the Baker family tree. You are, however, likely to find "family groups" that are buried in the same cemetery. Sometimes I can figure out the family relationship, sometimes not.

Not all of the Baker Cemeteries have been surveyed and/or transcribed (the process of documenting the names of those buried in a cemetery). If you live near one that I have listed as not surveyed, please take the time to run out and have a look. Take your digital camera, paper and pencil. See what you can find. Email me the information and I'll add it to this website, giving you credit for your hard work.

When possible I've done basic level research on the people listed and added additional information (such as relationships) that is not provided by the original source. You can view the original source website (when available) by clicking on the cemetery name. Much of the information came from Offsite Link IconFindagrave.com and Offsite Link IconInterment.net in which case no link is provided. The information I provide is not set in stone - as always, do your research to verify any information you intend to add to your family tree.

Icons used on this website

Offsite Link Icon

This icon marks offsite links that I found interesting or useful.

Dot

When you see this icon the burial information was sent to me by someone related to, or researching, that person. There may be an email link provided.

Family Tree Icon

When you see one of these icons there is a family tree (in PDF format) to help you understand the relationships of the people listed for a cemetery. Sometimes I provide a PDF booklet because there is just too much information for a simple tree.

This icon will take you to a satellite map showing the cemeteries location. In most cases the map is offsite at Windows Virtual Earth. This allows you to zoom, pan and get driving directions if desired.

Pioneer

The stage coach icon (at the bottom of many pages) leads to information about a Baker pioneer(s) for that state. There seems to be a least one Baker among the early settlers of most states. If you have information on an ancestor that you'd like included drop me an email.

At the bottom of some pages you'll see a quilt block graphic - click on it for bonus information on other Baker burials in that state or some other useful surprise.

As everyone who has done any family history research knows, the names of counties changed, sometimes often, as the result of population growth. It can be confusing to novice researchers who often mistakenly believe that their ancestors moved, when in fact all that happened was that their home county changed names. To help clarify I provide a chart of county information for many states, along with a state map showing county boundaries.

Civil War

Civil War Veteran

Revolutionary War Vet

This icon will lead to a list of epidemics for that state.

Music Control: Many of the pages have optional streaming MP3 background music that you can listen too while viewing them. While I'm not a big fan of music on websites, I felt that a little entertainment when you're looking at a lot of information might be nice. Just press the play button if things get too quiet.

To begin your research go to the navigation menu and choose a state or use the search box below (read the "Search" help page if you are suffering from information overload).
